About me
Mel received their M.S. in GIS and B.S. in biology from Idaho State University with the goal of merging their logical mindset and their love of nature to make an impact on how human interactions shape our environment. Mel is employed as a GIS Analyst for Bannock County, Idaho and a part-time research assistant for ISU. Mel's research at ISU largely focuses on developing GIS-based methods for environmental data analysis that guides conservation efforts. They also spent some time teaching introductory GIS courses on various spatial analysis techniques, and they worked for Yellowstone National Park for a season where they helped improve some of the park's data collection and storage workflows. While Mel's experiences are broad, they all have a common goal in encouraging environmental stewardship. A highlight of these experiences for Mel (aside from spending time in beautiful, remote environments) is sharing their work by publishing and presenting their research so they can help others learn from their mistakes and successes.
